A.I.R. Gallery, a nonprofit organization in Brooklyn, will soon launch its first Feminist & Queer Art Book Fair. Participating publishers and book artists will include Belladonna, Dancing Foxes Press, GenderFail, Litmus Press, MOMMY, Pinsapo Press, Precog Magazine, Siglio Press, Visual AIDS, and A.I.R. artists among others.

“The fair aims to offer space for artistic experimentation, prioritize feminist and queer histories, and facilitate intergenerational dialogue,” A.I.R. explains. “The gathering of publishers across media and subject prompts community-building and knowledge sharing, while celebrating the long history of A.I.R. artists who have been bookmakers working in language and form.”

Established in 1972, A.I.R. Gallery was one of the first women-led, artist-run, nonprofit organizations dedicated to women artists in the United States. The gallery operated at 97 Wooster Street in Soho before moving to 111 Front Street in Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood in 2008. In 2015, A.I.R. moved to its current location at 155 Plymouth Street. One of the gallery’s most celebrated initiatives is the Fellowship Program For Emerging and Underrepresented Women Artists, which provides a year-long career development intensive for six artists annually, as well as life-long support and collaboration.

Highlights at the fair will include books and cards from the 1980 exhibition “Speaking Volumes” curated by Lucy Lippard for A.I.R. — featuring more than 100 books by women-identified artists — as well as Susan Bee and Mira Schor’s collaborative project, M/E/A/N/I/N/G magazine.

The fair is free to participants and the public alike. A.I.R. Gallery is wheelchair accessible via a ramp. There are accessible toilets in the venue.
